The basics, honestly
Six stoneware mugs for roughly fourteen quid. That's the pitch. Each one holds 350ml, which is a decent amount, not a thimble of espresso but not a novelty bucket either. The colourful glaze is the obvious selling point. They look like the sort of thing you'd find in an independent café that has a chalkboard menu and charges too much for a flat white.
Stoneware is genuinely a step up from your basic ceramic in terms of heat retention. Your tea stays warm a bit longer, which matters at half eight in the morning when you've already forgotten you made a brew.
Who this is actually for
If you're kitting out a first flat, replacing a mismatched collection that's accumulated over six years, or just want something that looks decent when guests come round, this set makes a lot of sense. Six pieces for that price is hard to argue with.
Personally, I'd be a bit cautious about durability. Stoneware can chip more easily than it looks like it should, especially if someone in your household is heavy-handed with the washing up. Worth knowing before you get too attached.
The honest verdict
Not a life-changing purchase, obviously. But for £14, you're getting a cohesive set that looks a fair bit more expensive than it is. If the glaze holds up and the weight feels right in the hand, this is spot on for everyday use. Just don't treat them like they're indestructible.
