What you're actually getting
Filippo Berio is not a boutique Sicilian producer pressing olives by moonlight. It's a supermarket staple. But that's not a dig, mate, that's context. For everyday cooking, it does the job properly. The 500ml glass bottle is a nice touch too, because EVOO stored in plastic can pick up off-flavours over time, especially if your kitchen gets warm.
The oil itself is mild, slightly grassy, with just enough peppery finish to remind you it's actually extra virgin and not some refined nonsense. I've used it on toast with a pinch of flaky salt, in salad dressings, and for a low-heat sauté. Holds up fine across all of it.
Who this is for
If you cook most days and go through olive oil at a reasonable clip, this is a sensible buy. It's not the one you're reaching for on a bruschetta when guests are round, but it handles everything from roasting veg to finishing a soup without complaint.
Personally, I wouldn't use this as a finishing oil on anything where the flavour really matters. For that you'd want something single-origin with a harvest date on the label. But for the 80% of uses where olive oil is just part of the background, this is spot on.
The honest reservation
No comparison price to anchor it against, which makes calling it a "deal" a bit slippery. The community heat on HotUKDeals suggests people are finding it cheaper here than in-store, and the Subscribe and Save option does nudge the price down a touch. Check your local supermarket shelf price before committing, just to be sure.
