What you're actually getting
It's a 90g milk chocolate bar with a peanut butter truffle running through the middle. Montezuma's use 35% cocoa, which for milk chocolate is on the decent end, and the result is something that doesn't taste like a petrol station impulse buy. The chocolate has a bit of depth to it. The truffle centre is soft, properly peanutty without being claggy, and the whole thing holds together well as a bar rather than some layered novelty.
I had one mid-afternoon with a cup of tea, which is honestly the move. Didn't last long. The balance between the slight bitterness of the chocolate and the richness of the peanut butter is spot on, and it's not sickly in the way a lot of filled bars can be.
Who this is actually for
If you like Reese's but want something that feels a bit more considered, this is your bar. Also good if you're after a gluten free option that doesn't taste like a compromise. It's not a sharing bar, let's be clear, you'll eat it yourself and feel no guilt about it.
Personally, I wouldn't buy it at full supermarket price without thinking twice. But at £1.66, or even less on Subscribe and Save, it's a reasonable treat. My only reservation is the size: 90g goes quickly, and you might find yourself wishing you'd ordered a couple.
