The Reputation vs the Reality

Star Wars Outlaws launched last year to a collective shrug. Ubisoft open-world fatigue is real, the protagonist Kay Vess didn't exactly set Twitter alight, and the early reviews were... polite. Not glowing. So it quietly got patched, discounted, and mostly forgotten.

At £15 though, you're not buying hype. You're buying a game that's had time to settle.

What You Actually Get

Personally, I wasn't expecting much. But the moment you land on Tatooine and the twin suns hit the horizon with John Williams doing his thing in the background, something clicks. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's a scoundrel fantasy: steal stuff, outrun the Empire, dodge crime syndicates. Straightforward, but the atmosphere is spot on.

The stealth is a bit clunky, honestly. There are moments where the AI does something baffling and you feel like you're fighting the game rather than playing it. The wanted system can feel arbitrary too.

But the story held my attention more than I expected. Kay's not a Jedi, not chosen by destiny, just a thief trying to get by. That's actually refreshing in this universe.

Who This Is and Isn't For

If you bounced off Assassin's Creed recently, you'll recognise the DNA here and it might grate. If you've got young teens who love Star Wars and want something to sink a weekend into, this is proper good value at this price.

For hardened open-world cynics: maybe not. For anyone else with fifteen quid and a PS5 collecting dust: yeah, go on.
