Tanqueray London Dry is not flashy. It doesn't pretend to be a small-batch craft curiosity with notes of "coastal morning air" or whatever. It's a proper, no-nonsense gin: juniper forward, clean, slightly piney, with just enough citrus to keep things interesting. At 41.3% it's got some backbone without trying to floor you.
Personally, I keep a bottle in rotation precisely because it behaves itself. Tonic, ice, a wedge of lime - done. It doesn't fight the mixer. It doesn't need some elaborate garnish to taste of something.
Who this is for
If you're already buying Tanqueray regularly, a litre at this price point is just sensible. Stock up, move on. If you're someone who mostly drinks gin at parties and wants something guests will recognise and respect, this is spot on. The bottle looks the part too, which shouldn't matter but honestly, it does a bit.
Who it's not for: anyone chasing something more unusual. If you want floral, herbal, or experimental, Tanqueray isn't going to scratch that itch. It's the reliable midfielder, not the flashy winger.
The honest reservation
There's no listed "was" price to anchor against here, so it's harder to call this a proper deal versus just a fair price. The community heat is real (826 degrees is not half bad) but that might say as much about gin lovers being gin lovers as it does about the discount. At £20 for a litre of this quality, though, it's still good value by any reasonable measure.
