What it actually tastes like
Honestly, the first time someone handed me a chunk of this I wasn't expecting much. Fairtrade chocolate can sometimes feel like a compromise, like you're paying for the ethics and tolerating the taste. This one doesn't do that. The milk chocolate is properly creamy, the caramel comes through without being sickly, and the sea salt hits just at the end in a way that stops the whole thing from becoming too sweet. It's well-balanced. Not fancy patisserie stuff, but genuinely satisfying.
The texture is on the softer side, which I like. Snaps cleanly when cold, melts nicely at room temperature. Good sign.
Who this is for
If you buy Cadbury Dairy Milk by the multipack and you're happy with that, Tony's probably isn't your thing. The flavour profile is more grown-up, a bit richer, and the bar is smaller than you'd expect for the price. At 180g it's not stingy, but it's not the value-beast of a sharing bag either.
It suits people who:
- Actually care where their cocoa comes from
- Want something to share with a friend over tea without it feeling basic
- Are already fans of salted caramel anything
My one reservation is the price. At around 3 quid it's fine, but it creeps up if you start buying it regularly, and you will want to. The ethical sourcing story is real and worth knowing about, not just marketing fluff. That does count for something.
